Expert: Laptop, smartphone sales in Russia to rise in Jul–Sep

MOSCOW, Sep 9 (PRIME) -- Sales of laptops and smartphones in Russia will grow in July–September, but tablet imports will fall, researcher IDC said on Wednesday in a study.

“In July–September, the market of personal computers and smartphones will stay active. After a spike in April–June, the market of tablets will continue to decrease. The dynamics will be determined by saturation of consumer demand and a further fall of real incomes and cash reserves of households,” the experts said.

The economic impact of the crisis will manifest itself stronger sooner or later, and a renewal of restrictions amid a possible second wave of the pandemic could weaken the market in the coming months and in 2021.

At the same time, the remote work trend will strengthen as many companies have revised their attitude to presence of staff in the office. The market of software for networking and remote work will develop actively.

In April–June, the country imported 1.49 million desktops and laptops, 6.48 million smartphones and 630,000 tablets. The sales of personal computers rose by 30.1% on the year and sales of tablets by 8.5%, but sales of smartphones fell by 11.5%.
